A little glaze goes a long way because it is thinner than paint and usually applied thinly. One gallon of glaze should do the walls in a room approximately 10' X 10' in most paint techniques. You can have a latex (water based) glaze or an oil base glaze. I have given recipes for both. A water base glaze will dry faster, but the oil base gives you more time to "work" it. You will also want to do an oil base glaze if your base coat is oil based. Water Based Glaze - Several paint manufactures sell a pre-tinted glaze, such as Ralph Lauren Paints, but you are limited to the colors they have selected An untinted glaze that you add latex paint to in the color of your choice is available from Benjamin Moore Paints or Behr Paint. Manufacturers instructions are on the labels. Oil Based Glaze - You can purchase an untinted glaze (for oil paint) such as Porter Paints Antiquing Glaze. Instructions for mixing: equal parts antique glaze, oil-based paint and mineral spirits. I think it's best to mix an oil glaze several hours before you're going to use it to give the ingredients an opportunity to blend Decorating Studio, LLC Copyright 1998 - 2005 .
