This
mural was planned to disguise a problem wall. It is in a remodeled and extended
Kitchen. The room is trapezoid shaped and the longest wall is 26 ft long, broken
in the middle by a door ( a pantry) and a built-in cabinet/desk at one end. Viewable
from the front door and also the back door, it was a flat space that allowed the
door to jump out into the room visually. Furniture against the wall was not a
good idea, because it was the main path from the back door into the hall/ living
area. The second longest wall is directly across and is the main working space
of the kitchen. All appliances, sink and the majority of the cabinets are lined
up on that opposite wall.

The mural has transformed the room. With just the basic perspective in the path the entire space is visually larger and the kitchen now has an airy and tranquil feeling. The path draws your eye up and thru the picture and takes the focus away from the door. The owner did want the door incorporated into the design rather , therefore, it was left alone rather than trying to totally hide it.
The stone wall around the molding carries it through to the murals' garden wall. The corner stone pillar and the basket of white roses in the foreground anchor the scene into the room and the stone floor and path take the room and occupants into the picture. The large tree in the far left is repeated from a large tree in the back yard and the branches and leaves canopy over the back door and across the ceiling out into the room .
The mural has succeeded in making the room seem larger, added interest, as well as it has become a conversation piece and has added to the value of the house. We have created a room that everyone loves to gather in. On the first rainy day the family claims they'll have a picnic on the floor under the tree!
