Step One:Draw a floor plan of your Guest Bedroom (if you have one) and/or a floor plan of the area you would like to use for a Home Office. The Home Office area may just be a portion of one of your rooms that you have already drawn. If that is the case, you can use the previous plan that you have already drawn. Use the graph paper or the grids in your furniture package, based on the lesson from lesson Two on measuring.
Be sure to measure exactly where all doors, windows and built-ins are located. Refer to measuring a room in lesson 2 if you need to.
Step Two: Place your furniture, using the Furniture Layout Kit
Step Three: Using the red pencil, determine your path of traffic through the room/rooms. Does it flow easily without too much in the way?
In order to create the ideal Guest Bedroom, you need to think about what you appreciate in your surroundings when you travel. This is a simple exercise, but it will help you to select what furniture, accessories and items you should add to the Guest Room.
Think about the nicest hotel room you have ever stayed in. What
made it nice? Was it the color scheme, furniture, the extras?
Now, think about an ideal Guest Room you were given while visiting a friend. Go through the same process as above.
Some of the things on your list may not be possible due to the layout of your home or your budget. However, the list that you have just made will give you an objective insight into what makes an ideal Guest Room.
