Whether you realize it or not you have a home office at your house. It may just be a place where you pay the bills, use the computer, or the kids do their homework. But whether you have a room specifically for that purpose or you use the kitchen table, it is still the office of the home.

If you don't have an extra room to make the home office, as most of us don't, here are some suggestions to"finding" a space to use.

  • A guest bedroom.
  • A son or daughters room that is off at college.
  • A corner of your bedroom
  • A closet can be made into a small office that when you shut the door it is completely out of sight. Of course, you will be sitting outside of the closet while working, so don't panic.
  • A family room or den, but unless you live alone, don't use the same room that the television is located in.
  • Finish out part of basement, attic or garage.
  • Part of a large utility or laundry room.

No matter where you end up locating your home office there are several things that are crucial to the location.

  • Electrical outlets for computer, reading light, fax, etc.
  • Telephone outlets for phone and computer modem
  • Comfortable chair
  • Comfortable height of worksurface
  • Adequate light

So unless you already have the perfect niche carved out in your home for your home office, start looking around your house. I would love to hear some of your solutions that you have come up with in your home to share with everyone else.
