Master Bedroom & Bathroom Suites
Colors, Finishes & Decor

Note: You may want to review some of the information on colors from the first lesson.

Color is a very important thing in the Master Suite. The bedroom and the bathroom should have the same color scheme so that they flow from one to the other.

There are no right or wrong colors, however, if you have peach bathroom walls, you are looking the best you can in the bath mirror. If you have blue bathroom walls, the color may make you look a little pale. Something to keep in mind. But whatever color you love is a good color for your bedroom suite. Of course blue is a very popular color and is ideal for the bedroom because it is so calming. Red generally is only used as a secondary or accent color in the bedroom because it is a color of activity. But if you want red bedroom walls and it doesn't keep you awake - go for it! I believe that Master Suites should be very personalized with color and with accessories. This is our private space where no one can come in without being invited.

The owners of this hotel chain know that a peach bathroom will make their customers look their best!

Colors in the Bathroom fall into the same category - it's your space, do what you want. But, there are a few things that you may want to keep in mind when selecting the colors of the bath finishes.

  • Dark colored fixtures (sinks, toilets and tubs) will show water spots and dirt much quicker than white, ivory or a pale color would. If you feel like your ebony tub never looks clean - you may have hard water that shows every water drop.
  • Keep the expensive items - ceramic tile, countertops, bathroom fixtures - in neutral colors. Remember, neutral is not just white, gray, ivory - but can be almost any color as long as it is muted. You will not be replacing these items very soon and you may want to change the color scheme. With neutral colors you can easily give the room a whole new look.
  • Apply your dramatic color to the walls, towels, window treatments, rugs or accessories. These things are easily replaced.

Color was added to this bathroom on the walls and window treatments, however the permanent
finishes are neutral. This bathroom could completely change its look in a few years if the owners decide to.
